Thread: Fun with LED interior lights.

  1. #1

    Fun with LED interior lights.

Recently I upgraded my interior dome light to an LED and added a separate hatch light. Total project cost was about $20. Full details including parts and measurements can be found at the following link:

    The modified dome light.

    The new hatch light.

And some pictures showing the results. All of these were taken with the exact same exposure settings so you can compare brightness and color.

Here's the stock 5w dome light.

    And the LEDs.

    Matt,

AWESOME. I was looking to do this project this year and now you made it exponentially easier. Thanks for documenting, you rock.

I agree. The only interior lights I'd leave as incandescents are the front map lights, the LEDs are too bright and would destroy my night vision at night if they were turned on while driving. Of course this can always be solved by running them at ~200mA to lower the brightness.

Yeah, the hard part is trying to figure out how to dissipate the higher current/energy that the Crees need. With the new off the shelf drivers, it makes it a little easier.
