Did you use the electric fuel pump from the EFI system or put in your mechanical one? If you are using the electric it may be too much pressure for the carb. Also might be your accelerator pump on the carb putting to much fuel in when you step on the pedal.

The tank/ fuel pump combo is all from the '84. I didnt remove anything from the frame rails, just the cab, thats all that got swapped. the fuel pump is relatively new, as is the fuel filter, but its just a cheap "universal" filter, so maaybe I'll change that, although I dont think thats the issue.

Avy, yes I replaced the probe back where it was, and even though its a trail only rig, (its also old enough that it doesn't have to pass emissions) I want it to run right, I dont really want it to be a gross polluter, but honestly that isnt my major concern. I just want it to run correctly.

and what about the carb, do anything with it?

The carb has not been touched since the motor was rebuilt when I bought the truck. It was running perfectly, and then stopped. I suppose it could be something in the carb... but it seems odd timing...

when fuel evaporates it often leaves a thin layer of gum or varnish - how long was your's sitting for? There's no reason to go tearing it apart, just buy a can or two of carb cleaner and spray out every bit you can stick the plastic nozzle into including the fuel inlet(wear glasses, sometimes stuff sprays back)

no. it ALWAYS sprays back. ask me how i know.

i second the cleaning of the carb very well. i have a small gas engine on our weed wacker that gummed up from sitting to long. carb cleaner took care of it.

Carb cleaner burns more than pepper spray that the police use. Keep a can in your wifes purse and youll know that she is safe and will never have a dirty carb either. I would still check the pressure on that universal fuel pump. I had a 66 mustang do the same thing until I put a pressure regulator on it and the electric pump I was using was only putting out 4 psi. When I would floor the throttle it would squirt enough fuel quickly from the bowls that the pump could overwhelm the spring on the needle valve and flood it out. Only other thing I can think of is if the vehicle is losing spark suddenly when you want immediate power.

Its a universal fuel filter. The pump is an OEM replacement.

Sorry. Misread your post about the fuel filter and pump. Still with wet plugs you are definitely having carb issues. I havent dealt with a carb though in about 4 yrs let alone one with emissions garbage on it other than motorcycles which is a whole other creature.
