I know, I pushed it right to the edge. My rig has 142,500 miles.

dam your lucky! what were you thinking? i felt bad about mine going over 100k i did mine at 105k. the service interval is 90k just FYI guys you might as well change it when its due, its basically the only thing you need to worry about on the 3.4L. just because you cant see cracks on the top does not mean there isnt little cracks on the bottom side with the teeth, and they can also stretch which you probably wont notice.

Well it's not like it's REALLY dangerous... If the timing belt snaps you just have to tow it home and fix it then. Since it's a non-interference engine, you aren't really risking engine damage by putting off the timing belt service (although if the water pump goes you might have a problem).

your right, but who likes getting stranded? could happen in the woods somewhere = not fun for you or the people who are stuck dragging your broken truck out of the woods from neglecting maintenance

Yep, I agree. Now I can take the family on a road trip up to Anchorage and maybe Fairbanks this summer and not worry about it. We were going to do a winter trip, but this work and a new baby postponed it.

Just another FYI, originally the 96-98 4Runners had a belt interval of every 60K and then they changed to 90k in 99 up.
My original was changed at 76k, I didn't change it again till 176k, my belt appeared fine but I know it was stretch, it just didn't feel right.
Put the new belt on and the truck had some pep again thats for sure.

Its not that hard, without power tools we could get it done in a weekend.

I have the tensioner tool too from the last time I had to mess with it (you recall the rag incident when the spark plug blew out right?).

One of these days I gotta do the t-belt, need a rear first tho.

With us two and breaks im sure we could get it done in 3 hours or less. I already know how to remove 90% of it-its a long story.
