SS 7.2 lift. Can i fit 285/75R16 tires?

    I have the Sonoran Steel System 7.2 on my 2002 4Runner -
    http://frohbego.blogspot.com/

I currently have on the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO Tires 265/75R16.

My question is can i go up to the next size BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM 285/75R16 ?

WIll they fit? Does anyone run the 285/75R16 without re-gearing?

I have a chance to get a set super cheap from a friend so its pretty tempting.

    Thanks!
    - JON

Just got an email from Steve at SS and he recommended 255/85/16 on my stock rims. Anyone running that size?

with the stock wheels, you will probably not clear the UCA with 285/75r16. spacers will solve that problem, but im not sure 1/4" spacers will correct the problem, and there are other issues with larger spacers.

i have the stock 4.10 gearing with 285's. its ok if you do lots of highway driving, and dont do much mountain driving. i fully plan on going to 4.56 or 4.88 (i havent made up my mind yet) to get to either stock or slightly lower than stock gearing.

255/85r16 is a good size, and i thought about running it on mine. it will be about half an inch narrower than your stock tires, and measure out to about 33". this size will eliminate the problems with the UCA, as well as reducing the likelyhood of rubbing on the frame or other parts such as the bumper, pinch weld, etc.

FWIW, if i was to do mine again, i would go with 285's on stock wheels with wheel spacers up front to clear the tundra brakes without grinding the calipers. that would have been the cheapest solution for me. instead i went with 4.25" backspace wheels to clear the UCA's and had to grind my tundra calipers to get the wheels to fit on.

i have the equivalent of ss 1.2, with about 200 pounds extra on the front of the vehicle and the shocks up 1 notch from recommended, and 150 pounds extra on the rear. my vehicle sits level with this setup.

He's in PA, Spacer are illegal here, just to give you a heads up.

Seans right you will most likely have rubbing issues with the 285s.
Now if you get a rim with a different backspacing then you can go with the 285s.

I have the 255/85/16, they are great and I love them, but the brand I got fell short of actually being a 33" tire (more like a 32.5) but there are brands out there that have a true skinny 33" tire.

You have the Thinker flares to, so going with a different rim with different backspacing isn't bad, also this would be a good opportunity to do a 16x8 rim.
