Thread: Help me choose a rig for my family of 5

Re: Help me choose a rig for my family of 5

Tacoma will not hold 3 carseats across the back. 1st gen tundra will if you have the right car seats (all 3 can't be those giant britax type seats), and I know this because my brother had to do this. One of his might have already been in a booster seat though.

I would imagine that a 2nd gen tundra definitely would fit 3 across. Get a nice shell for it.

Our third child is due this week. We got a minivan, to replace my wifes' Tacoma. I will say, it is very comfortable and nice to drive. I've got my 4Runner to play in the dirt, but the van will do most of the family duties. I'll definitely have to get a trailer for the camping gear now, too.

Having a family to come home to is well worth getting over the whole minivan thing. I wouldn't trade my wife and kids for the world.

    An early congrats on #3!!!

I'm not horrified at the idea of a mini van (well, maybe a little ) but I need 4 wheel drive and something that can tow my trailer and carry my duck hunting stuff. Add in rough roads and ground clearance and I don't see a mini van competing. Right now we have my 4runner and my wife's corolla (both paid for). I commute with the corolla and she ferries the kids and the dog around in the 4runner. It would make no sense to get rid of the corolla since I'll still be commuting and it gets 35mpg. Replacing the 4runner with an all wheel drive mini van would fit the need for family and winter driving, but I'm not keen on the boat towing, off-road and duck hunting issues.

Finding a good deal on a sequoia or land cruiser would be awesome!

scout e-bay and see if you can find anyone in the area of one you like to check it out, they are out there, it might be worth the trip to get the one you want...

    Great suggestions Avy, Thanks!

The first one (blue) is really nice, but the second row is only two captions chairs, so that won't work for the 3 car seats.

#'s 2 and 3 are really nice. I like the low mileage of #2.

I'll keep watching and leaning about sequoias and their typical pricing.
