Meh, for those without kids, you guys are reading a lot into that pic.

I know in the next year, I will have Jack on my lap to do a little driving around camp out at Pismo. He can't reach the petals, so only has control over the steering wheel. Someone snaps a pic and people on the intardnet can read into it all they want, but it's still just a kid doing something totally safe with dad.

For all you know in that pic, truck is in low/low, dad has control of pedals and kid is just getting some wheel time to get a poser shot. Obstacle isn't off camber, so with just that pic, I don't pass judgement. For all you know, he just creeped up to there in low/low for the pic and backed back down.

Obi..
11-17-2009, 11:54 PM
...For all you know in that pic, truck is in low/low..

..and all I can assume from that then is he backed up just to the edge of the bush to get a better approach. Whatever, I just put up a reply is all. I was driving far more dangerous things like farm equipment at 9 so I don't have any issue with that.

YotaGirl
11-18-2009, 10:41 AM
I agree with Chris and NorCal; Joe and I have our kids driving all around the lake bed. Emily and Caity can't reach the pedals, but with the truck in double low, it drives by it's self anyway.

As far as the tread lightly failure... that shot looks like it might be out in Cougar Buttes, which is a designated OHV area. The rules aren't as strict out there. New trails are being developed all the time and as such, some shrubbery is going to get knocked down.

wifesaysimadumbass
11-18-2009, 12:13 PM
i have wheeled the same trail out at superstition almost every year for at least five years. every year there is a bush in the trail and every year some knucklehead drives over it, but amazingly the bush is still there the next year and it's always bigger then the year before.... It amazes me when i hear "the desert is a sensitive ecosystem" b.s. the desert survives no matter what we do to it and will continue to... i don't condone destroying the desert but to think you could destroy it in the first place is very myopic... no problem with the kid in the lap shot here either

New 'Fight Club' Blu-rays Come with a Prank by the Director
by Lindsey Robertson · November 18, 2009

Don't be shocked when you load up your new Blu-ray version of director David Fincher's 1999 cult classic "Fight Club" this holiday season and the menu screen appears to be from the Drew Barrymore romantic comedy "Never Been Kissed." It turns out it's all a prank by Fincher.

After noticing the gag with a preview copy, The Onion's AV Club contacted Fox Home Entertainment and had its suspicions confirmed: while the original "Fight Club" menu replaces the "Never Been Kissed" one after a few seconds, the "snafu" was no accident.

http://l.yimg.com/a/i/mo/pseudoblog_fightclubkissed250.jpg

Turns out that Fincher thought it would be funny to use the menu from a sweet bubble-gum romance -- the farthest possible thing from the very dark "Fight Club" -- that was a much bigger box office success when both films were released in 1999. Barrymore's inexpensive comedy grossed $55 million in the U.S., while the big-budget "Fight Club" only brought in $37 million. Of course, "Fight Club" has developed a loyal and vocal fan following over the past decade, and it is listed in the top 10 of Total Film's and Empire magazine's Greatest Films of All Time lists.

Don't worry about the practical joke hurting Drew Barrymore's feelings, though. "Fight Club" actor Edward Norton is friends with the "Never Been Kissed" star and producer, so she gave the OK for the gag. Sharp-eyed viewers can also spot Barrymore in the movie itself. There is one shot of a discarded Movieline magazine with her on the cover.

Critics that were sent a review copy of the new Blu-ray were specifically asked not to disclose the joke before it went on sale this past Tuesday. Apparently, the first rule of "Fight Club" still stands: you do not talk about "Fight Club."

What happened, I thought you were all good over there? I have only been there maybe twice in the last year and that was so I could first figure out which resistor I needed for a 3.4 swap tach mod and then recently just to view something someone put up about me.

Nope, the springs have stock amount of uptravel/not solid to the frame or body, but it's hard to tell in the pics - might be mistaking the spring plates for the frame or body

I think that weld you're looking at is actually the bracket for the steering stabilizer - scary is the drag link tie rod attachment to the passenger side knuckle

puulboy
12-02-2009, 06:10 PM

Guys, the white ford pickup (older Ranger model versus the F-150) is actually deliberately not overly suspended whatsoever, and is actually not a fail for what I see it setup with and likely what it is going to be used to tow.. if there wasn't a better spot to use this smiley I havn't seen it..

http://www.hwh.zoomshare.com/files/my_images/SMALL_0.jpg

The leaf setup is for sagout, basically when the front end is lifted to actually prevent the axle from tearing the steering out and not tear the frame, all part of the regulations to have a conversion maintain some semblance of a factory setup. The builder's just taken a literal interpretation of that rule.

There is likely a bored out Windsor or big block in there to match those axles, and maybe it's that I have been to the events and why I would know that. I've seen some of the smaller and newer "silent powered" Dodge diesels goto an almost full pull.

slosurfer

Guys, the white ford pickup (older Ranger model versus the F-150)

Actually that body style, doors, mirrors, bumper, etc.. are exactly like my 89 F250. I like your thinking on that, but I highly doubt that is why the truck is like that. I bet those are the stock springs, which on those years of trucks don't have much arch to begin with.

CJM
12-03-2009, 07:07 PM
Basically they made huge drop brackets and attached them to the springs and then to the axle and made some funky steering setup using more drop.

Hey, at least it isnt one of those with the huge frame welded off the body and then the suspensions attached to it like so many ive seen before.

Reminds me, friend bought a 95 dodge 1500 all lifted. Lift up fronts a really nice skyjacker setup with adjustments out the wazoo. The rear has get this, a block on the bottom that is not totally square, it has a kick out to touch the axle on the inside and then it has another block on top of that-thats (2) 3 inch thick blocks..jesus.. Drop shackles woulda done the same and had more flex.

A. They should have brought the green crane in, in the first place
B. Mr. Red crane didn't look to have the side land supports/stabilizers like the green crane was using..
C. Even though the page states it is false the green crane fell in trying to retrieve the red crane, no way that's possible with the stabilizers it was using..

yep... its the 5th picture with a decently photochopped green crane from the last real picture... for what the photoshopper had to work with, they didnt do too bad a job... but definitely fake :-P

@ scuba - im gonna guess the green crane was probably more expensive to call than the red crane... and it looks like the red crane could have done it if they used a better angle, since it didnt fall until the car was completely up in the air...

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Tennessee investigators say a 4-year-old boy was found roaming his neighborhood in the night, drinking beer and wearing a little girl's dress taken from under a neighbor's Christmas tree.

The child's mother, 21-year-old April Wright, tells WTVC-TV the boy "wants to go to jail because that's where his daddy is." Wright says she and the boy's father are going though a divorce.

The boy, found outside his house in Chatanooga on Tuesday, was taken to a hospital and treated for alcohol consumption.

Hamilton County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Janice Atkinson says the incident is being investigated but the department declined to release the report.

The boy's mother says she met with child protective services and was told she will get to keep custody of her son.

im sorry, if i found my 4 year old wondering the streets at midnight, drunk, and wearing a dress, i would give up my kid(s) for their own safety, because obviously im a horrible parent if im allowing stuff like this to happen.

I agree. It's absolutely rediculous how "forgiving" CPS is. I'm dealing with a similar situation right now. Joe and I have custody of his 8 nieces and nephews. Both parents are in jail for drug related charges. This is the 3rd time the children have been in foster care, twice this year alone. The unfortunate thing is, CPS will probably give the children back to the parents once they get out of jail.

The children were living in horrid conditions prior to coming to our house. The gas had been shut off to the house for about a month. The children were filthy, having not had a bath during that time. They had very little clothing and what they did have, was too small for them and dirty. I can't believe people actually treat their own children like that. It's such a shame. They are beautiful children. The crazy thing is, despite the abuse these kids have received, they still remain so devoted to their parents.

AxleIke
12-18-2009, 01:31 PM
I know a few people who work in the local CPS stuff. Its not that they want to be forgiving. Most of them are just like you, and want to see these kids taken away from their parents.

Couple of things get in the way.

1. The laws are written such that they are supposed to be trying to reunite the kids with the parents as soon as the parents have shown the courts that they've made progress to clean up their acts.

2. They are extremely underfunded, just like most government funded social programs. They simply don't have the money, time, or resources to keep many kids in their custody. Foster care is fine, but in many cases, the relatives these kids have are just as bad or worse as the parents (obviously speaking in generalities here, Yotagirl. You guys are not the norm in these cases). So, quite a few of these kids simply cannot be taken care of for very long. They put them back with the parents as soon as the parents are deemed ready by the courts. Sadly, that is often not much better than when they were taken away.

The solution lies with changing the laws and increasing funding. Probably never going to happen.

YotaGirl
12-18-2009, 02:08 PM
Yeah, when I said CPS, I meant the law portion of it. Not the people themselves.

As far as the funding goes, I too, was under the immpression that they were short on funds. I found out last weekend from one of my Sorority sisters (who is a social worker for San Bernardino County) that they have much more funding then they are letting on, at least for our county. The social worker I was dealing with was encouraging us to go for legal guardianship. My sister told me they do that to lighten their case loads. After the holidays, we're going to re-evaluate the situation and see what will be the best for the kids. For us, the kids going back to the parents when they get out is not an option.

You're doing it wrong! Chinese demolition men accidentally create the leaning tower of Liuzhou
By Mail Foreign Service

Comments (115) Videos Add to My Stories Everyone likes to see a good video of a large building being completely reduced to rubble.
This video goes one better.
The footage, taken on December 30, shows a 22-floor residential building being demolished in the city of Liuzhou in southern China.

But disaster is narrowly averted when the demolition goes wrong.
Instead of crumbling into a contained heap of rubble, half of the building crashes sideways to the ground, narrowly averting disaster.
Even more alarmingly, the other half is left still standing - but leaning precariously to the side.

In video footage, onlookers can be heard shouting in awe as the blast is carried out.

The demolition failed due to technical reasons, the China Daily reported. Experts had intended for the building to break in to two parts - but the rest of the experiment had, clearly, gone awry.

The building was being destroyed to make way for real estate projects.

The second half of the building has since been demolished by a crane, reports claimed.

No apologies needed, I'm laughing about all this now anyhow, and taking a better look at who I am applying to work for from now on.

Besides, it freed up some time to go out today and play around. Of course I now am gonna be installing 12 new hub studs since two broke at the cone washer. 23 ft/lbs and 7 ft/lbs, don't know why they broke, they were torqued right, maybe fatigue? It's not like the locking flange bolts don't have "7" emblazoned right on them.. :hillbill:

A little knurl where it broke but nothing out of the ordinary from what I saw other than the adjoining two a little bent from the failure. I had all cad coated ones, the originals from when it was bought and just went ahead and picked up 2 packs of new ones that are the black coating instead. For some reason the one's I see breaking on other trucks are the cad's or the old rusted up whatever ones.

It was less than $20 for them and a pair of circular gaskets, finished up the swap on them in less than an hour. :D

Maybe b/c the gasket itself was a little decrepit causing uneven torque??

Maybe some deflection from the standard socket we used when they were originally torqued since it wasn't a short extension with an impact socket making the torque off??

I dunno..I kept the broken one, want to see a pic??

I just worked for 14 hours straight trying to install an ebay clutch on my friend's integra. After 5 failed attempts to mate the engine and transmission I started to think something was up. I pulled the clutch and pressure plate off the flywheel and tried sliding the clutch onto the transmissions input shaft. Turns out the ID of the clutch was smaller then the OD of the input shaft. Moral of the story, test new clutches out on the transmission input shafts before you try to install them and NEVER BUY CLUTCHES OFF EBAY!

B/C I though it was funny and relevant with the part where they're pulling a 4Runner grille off of the Honda! :D

Besides, you gotta admit, most of us do have our latte's/foofy coffee's in our rigs sometimes, not to mention the doggies.

BTW, Fuster, found out what caused the hub stud fail.. Craftsman fail..a torque wrench that has gone loose is what apparently caused some of my hub studs to snap on a recent trip, they were overtorqued b/c the click-wrench needed calibration and was off by 11lbs even though only a few months old. A stud you only are to torque to 23ft/lbs can and did yield at 34-35ft/lbs.

Whatever happens seriously consider finding a shop with one of these or getting one yourself, I am glad my father had one to use since the store was trying to imply I'd dropped the wrench at some point. (*Hard b/c I have only used it twice, the first time I did the studs and this time. There's no marks on it or the case, likely build quality or shipping damage??

CJM, well, that would then be a budget fail on my part..I would love to swap out my entire tool supply for Mac or Snap-On, but $'s tight and they don't have any ability to sponsor me. I'm lucky to have the tool supply and equipment I have now and am more than gracious for it, even if it did cost me $20 for a stud set, I now have access to test the wrench whenever I need to and tools that were badly needed replacing. Best yet is the inherited tools I was given were all craftsman, even some with the old-school Sears lettering on them and the warranties still work as I have a couple of ratchet-wrenches that are on their death beds.

I havn't seen this up yet, so here goes, I like it is not just a fail, but also an exemplary example of when things can and do go right sometimes.

It may or may not be true…but it’s an interesting read!

Very well put..snopes.com says this is true.

Remember the guy who got on a plane with a bomb built into his shoe and tried to light it?
Did you know his trial is over? Did you know he was sentenced? Did you see/hear any of the judge's comments on TV
or Radio? Didn't think so.!!! Everyone should hear what the judge had to say.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ruling by Judge William Young, US District Court.

Prior to sentencing, the Judge asked the defendant if he had anything to say. His response: After admitting his guilt to
the court for the record, Reid also admitted his 'allegiance to Osama bin Laden, to Islam, and to the religion of Allah,' defiantly
stating, 'I think I will not apologize for my actions,' and told the court 'I am at war with your country.'

Judge Young then delivered the statement quoted below:

January 30, 2003, United States vs. Reid.
Judge Young: 'Mr. Richard C. Reid, hearken now to the sentence the court imposes upon you.

On counts 1, 5 and 6 the Court sentences you to life in prison in the custody of the United States Attorney General. On
counts 2, 3, 4 an d 7, the Court sentences you to 20 years in prison on each count, the sentence on each count to run consecutively. (That's
80 years.)

On count 8 the Court sentences you to the mandatory 30 years again, to be served consecutively to the 80 years just imposed.
The Court imposes upon you for each of the eight counts a fine of $250,000 that's an aggregate fine of $2 million. The Court
accepts the government's recommendation with respect to restitution and orders restitution in the amount of $298.17 to Andre
Bousquet and $5,784 to American Airlines.

The Court imposes upon you an $800 special assessment. The Court imposes upon you five years supervised release simply because the law
requires it. But the life sentences are real life sentences so I need go no further.

This is the sentence that is provided for by our statutes. It is a fair and just sentence. It is a righteous sentence.
Now, let me explain this to you. We are not afraid of you or any of your terrorist co-conspirators, Mr. Reid. We are
Americans. We have been through the fire before. There is too much war talk here and I say that to everyone with the utmost respect. Here
in this court, we deal with individuals as individuals and care for individuals as individuals. As human beings, we reach out for justice.

You are not an enemy combatant. You are a terrorist. You are not a soldier in any war. You are a terrorist. To give you that reference,
to call you a soldier, gives you far too much stature. Whether the officers of government do it or your attorney does it, or if you think
you are a soldier, you are not----- you are a terrorist. And we do not negotiate with terrorists. We do not meet with terrorists. We do not sign documents with terrorists. We hunt them down one by one and
bring them to justice. So war talk is way out of line in this court. You are a big fellow. But you are not that big. You're no warrior. I've known warriors.
You are a terrorist. A species of criminal that is guilty of multiple attempted murders. In a very real sense, State Trooper Santiago had
it right when you first were taken off that plane and into custody and you wondered where the press and the TV crews were, and he said: 'You're no big deal.'
You are no big deal.

What your able counsel and what the equally able United States attorneys have grappled with and what I have as honestly as I know how
tried to grapple with, is why you did something so horrific. What was it that led you here to this courtroom today?

I have listened respectfully to what you have to say. And I ask you to search your heart and ask yourself what sort of unfathomable hate led
you to do what you are guilty and admit you are guilty of doing? And, I have an answer for you. It may not satisfy you, but as I search
this entire record, it comes as close to understanding as I know.

It seems to me you hate the one thing that to us is most precious. You hate our freedom.. Our individual freedom. Our individual freedom to
live as we choose, to come and go as we choose, to believe or not believe as we individually choose. Here, in this society, the very
wind carries freedom. It carries it everywhere from sea to shining sea.. It is because we prize individual freedom so much that you are
here in this beautiful courtroom, so that everyone can see, truly see, that justice is administered fairly, individually, and discretely. It
is for freedom's sake that your lawyers are striving so vigorously on your behalf, have filed appeals, will go on in their representation of
you before other judges.

We Americans are all about freedom. Because we all know that the way we treat you, Mr. Reid, is the measure of our own liberties. Make no
mistake though. It is yet true that we will bear any burden; pay any price, to preserve our freedoms. Look around this courtroom. Mark it
well. The world is not going to long remember what you or I say here. The day after tomorrow, it will be forgotten, but this, however, will
long endure.

Here in this courtroom and courtrooms all across America , the American people will gather to see that justice,
individual justice, justice, not war, individual justice is in fact being done. The very President of the United States through his officers
will have to come into courtrooms and lay out evidence on which specific matters can be judged and juries of citizens will gather to sit and
judge that evidence democratically, to mold and shape and refine our sense of justice.

See that flag, Mr. Reid? That's the flag of the United States of America . That flag will fly there long after this is all forgotten.
That flag stands for freedom. And it always will. Mr. Custody Officer. Stand him down.

Oh, Forgot to mention.

Well over the past week, I've had a pretty constant migraine/ headache that started at the top of my neck and went all the way to the front part of my skull.

My mom who is a PA told me they're tension headaches, And I need to see a doctor of osteopathy and he will "adjust" me. Well I went in to see the DOC and he said these headaches are caused by numerous things that can lead to a nerve in the back of your neck being pinched between the 2 bones that hold up your head. The ones that stood out to me the most are : Poor posture (RE: laptop, too much phone usage), and strenuous sports activities where my head would be bouncing around alot (RE: wheelin, dirtbike riding). Anyway, the doctor stretched my neck and cracked it from side to side. I immediately started feeling better when I got up. This morning I got up and my headache was nearly non existent. My mom said I will feel even better tomorrow.

Moral of the story. I am too big of a web wheeler and use the computer and iPhone way too much.

Here's the Doc's website, He's a cool dude and it's the first time I laughed in a doctors office :)

the strap was attached to the vehicle correctly. however, the wheel was behind a 2.5 foot wall of solid mud. pulling on it that hard caused the axle to rip from the jeep (unibody anybody?)

that recovery was an epic fail. they should have had at least two people with shovels out there digging out the wheels before they ever attempted that pull.

When jump starting a vehicle, double check your connections ;)

Right now I'm sitting in the parking lot at school, waiting for my next class to start.
As I'm sitting here I see a girl in a geo tracker and another car trying to jump start it. After 10 mins the second car gave up and the guy left. A few mins later another car pulls up and hooks up another set of cables.. No dice. All the while I'm sitting here wondering why this damn geo won't start.. So I said eff it, grabbed my biggest wrench (to bump the starter) and walked over.. Took a look and the starter was brand new, I gave it some love taps anyway.. No dice.
So finally I check the jumper cables, low and behold they weren't attached worth for crap.. So I reattached them on the jumper car, and reattached on the dead car, heard the jumper car bog down..... Told the chick to try it and... Success!!

Just goes to show how stupid some people can be.. I blame the asshat guy that was assisting..

OK, let me start by saying "Sorry guys, I did not have a chance to get pics of this.."

Now, the story is worth it though, since you can't make this kind of s#!t up.

Going out to Fremont today by way of the back streets I see a Ford Escape, County Vehicle pulled over with something large and dark hanging below the SUV, just under the driver's passenger door. I see the driver/official with a handful of flares and immediately see there's some fluid on the street tracing about 15 yards back and to the gas tank and leaking around the bottom of the vehicle and go "Oh S#!T! NO YOU IDIOT!!" The tank strap apparently broke somehow.

I immediately pull over to see he has 3 sets of flares going back from the vehicle the first within 10 yards of the back end, where traffic goes by at 35mph, even with the obvious vehicle issue in front of them.

I tried to explain for 3 minutes to "..put those flares out now!" with the guy arguing with me before I said "..you're an idiot and don't you know what a spark is!!" then got back in my 4Runner and got away from there asap.

Let's hear it for Ford Quality, City/County Workers w/ Intelligence, and well, society being stupid sometimes.

So I get a call for a flat tire and go there. I notice the address has no car at it but the neighbor across the street has a car in their yard that matches the description-a white chevy tracker.

Go knock on the door, little old lady comes out and says she tried to back out but somehow she flew into the neighbors yard. I put that sucker in 4wd lo and made it out and changed her tire.

Failure of the night, trying to pull away from a first kiss too early.
BUT, I realized what I was doing wrong ;)

Guess my decision to come back from KOH 2010 early wasn't a terrible thing.

Why try to start crap with Santa (not his real name but those of us that know him call him that, FWIW he's ex-military and is stronger and taller than me. *Don't start no shit you won't get no shit! The guy gets beat down finally after all those times of starting crap and trying to intimidate folks..I'm just sorry that the guy who kicked his ass is caught on tape and will definitely see a trial, even though he was just chatting at first and just decided to walk away to have the thug guy still come at him and make the first hit..

Sorry for the rant but this is why I don't want my wife using AC Transit, BART, or MUNI.

*Recall procedure fail? Did someone actually think all of this out as far as offroad use?

re: http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/customer-faqs-regarding-the-sticking-153495.aspx

This system cuts engine power in case of simultaneous application of both the accelerator and brake pedals.

OK, so am I the only one knowing the Tundra, Sequoia, and Tacoma all are available in 4wd and Automatic transmissions? What about the inevitability of someone needing to double pedal a descent or ascent? Nothing like having your engine power suddenly cut in half just when you might need it most.

Also how will it affect the engagement of the traction controls then?

This fail is from the other day and why you should never try to overtake a slow moving semi turning onto an onramp with stuff like this on it. I'm still amazed the driver of the Honda actually survived..

http://lh3.ggpht.com/_PWt8rBL1E2A/S4xHQgXoOFI/AAAAAAAAACM/uVt-CKgYZfI/noname.jpeg

If you look closely you can see where they had the flatbed recovery semi, the semi tow truck, and the winch line pivot at the front of the fire engine. Took 4 hours to clear it up partially and the freeway was shut down even longer as the thing was blocking the ramps.

Scuba saves the day with another act of jump starting help. This time it was 2 girls, one in a lifted to shit newer avalanche and then the rescue truck, a semi old chevy. The girl doing the jumping hooked the negatives up to pieces of shitty ass painted metal on both trucks.. After one shot of cranking, a couple baseball bat taps of the starter and another shot of cranking I offered up my help... "you know anything about vehicles" one said... "Uhh I know a little bit.." this all while I'm sitting in my truck.. I go and look over the cables, move the ground to the negative side of the batteries, tell the chick to crank it and what do ya know, it starts.. Come on people, if your going to tell someone you'll help them jump start their car, don't embarrass yourself by not being able to preform one of the simplest tasks..

*Case in point, I actually have met Fungus through Slartibartfast (Chris), who owns one of the coolest little bike shops in San Francisco. I swear, when I worked a month under contract for him I wasted easily 2 hours of my day, 10 hours a week having him and I throw ideas back and forth with him showing me all the bait posts. ONe of the few shop owners i would ever consider working for if I had to, really smart and funny guys.

..eeeeepooooossssttt.

No worries, I figured someone would catch that. That would be due to a flickr account fail. For some reason I can't search it in my own posts, and someone else had pm'd me about the pic being mia/inactive so I just posted it in here using my picassa "LOL'z-n-Fails" album as the base so it wouldn't get bumped off of my flickr account again.

Free Picassa Album=No Pic bump/drop if you have over 100 stored, I can't say the same for the Flickr one, and there is no way i am gonna fork out for a pro-account. Funny that Google sucks w/ Google Earth, but is great with the picassa online storage.
